Impressionism is the essence of my
current approach to photography, because I can express my
visual feelings without a lot of artificial image manipulation. I
believe that this
natural approach to photography can reveal
inner feelings that traditional photographs usually do not produce.
Impressionist renderings of the images using digital
techniques can emphasize the emotional character of the subject in a way
that is more revealing than normal photogaphy.
My style of Photo Impressionism uses special techniques to simplify and intensify the
colors and planes of the subject. The integrity of the image is preserved, but the colors and textures are enhanced or minimized. The intent is to produce a stronger visual impression that talks to
the emotions more than the intellect.
Many of these photographs were
shown in an exhibit sponsored by the Utah Arts Council in 2004, then at the Patrick Moore Gallery in 2006 and 2007, and
the Eccles Art Center in 2008. The
images were
produced with a variety of techniques to create an Impressionistic style.
