THE LIGHT OF MORONI: This Impressionist photograph was accepted in the 8th International Art Competition of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The theme of the exhibit is "Remembering the Great Things of God" --  the photo is of the outside window frame of the Smith cabin in Palmyra, New York showing the morning sun shining through the windows on both sides of the cabin. It is symbolic of the visitation of the angel Moroni to the Prophet Joseph Smith.

A R T I S T ' S   S T A T E M E N T

I call my work, mixed media Impressionist photography, because I use several processes to produce the images. They include special camera techniques along with printing and digital processes to simplify and intensify the colors and visual planes of the subject. I believe that Impressionism can express the truth more eloquently than a rendition of visual reality. Colors and tones appear emotionally natural when tempered by an Impressionist interpretation. Various techniques are used to add a touch of color, texture and imagination to heighten the visual interpretation and emotional experience of the viewer. I often deliberately eliminate detail to purify the tones and colors to reveal the essence of what I see. The intent is to produce a visual impression that speaks to the emotions more than the intellect. These images are not "computer art" and the computer is only used to assist the other processes to produce a final one-of-a-kind image. My photographs are somewhat eclectic in design and subject matter, but they are all created using an Impressionist approach.

My imaging techniques have changed over the years -- from early B&W experimentation to my present Impressionist style. Even though I include Abstract Impressionism as part of my artistic expressions, there is a common thread that runs through all of my work -- an intrinsic search for the purity of visual emotion.

My main tools are modern digital equipment. I use in-camera manipulation and software enhancement, as well as printing variations and other techniques to allow me to form a personal Impressionist view. My prints are Giglee produced on professional watercolor papers that further enhance the Impressionistic nature of the presentation. Each print is then uniquely matted and framed to become a unique piece of art.
